This is where composite resin material (the same material used for white fillings) is bonded onto the tooth to improve its appearance. This is different to a veneer as a veneer covers the entire front facing surface of the tooth and is made in the lab and cemented onto the front surface of the tooth, however composite bonding is done chairside usually in a single appointment.
Composite bonding is a good alternative as it usually doesn’t involve taking away any tooth tissue The desired shade of white material is chosen and is bonded straight onto the tooth to immediately improve its aesthetics. This is then moulded and shaped by your dentist and then polished to leave nice glowing finish.
Composite bonding can be a great alternative to porcelain veneers as they can be easily removed later if you are unsure to want porcelain veneers where the tooth may need to be cut down slightly which is irreversible. Composite veneers however usually only last 5-8 years and so may need to be replaced more frequently than porcelain as they can chip and stain more.
Please speak to the dentist for more information on this at your consultation appointment
