There are two types of fillings that the dental practice can offer, amalgam (silver or metal coloured) and white fillings, which match the colour of your natural teeth.
Amalgam fillings are tried and tested and in many cases will last a life time, they are durable, flexible and will protect the healthy tooth tissue after the decayed tissue has been removed.
Amalgam fillings are also very safe, there have been many studies over the years into the safety of amalgam fillings, none have found that there are any health concerns.
The only draw back with an amalgam filling is the aesthetics. Amalgam fillings by their nature are metal and so you will notice the different colour in you mouth. Amalgam fillings have a grey or silver colour, which you may not like
White Fillings are just as good as amalgam fillings but they are the same colour as your natural teeth so they are almost invisible, if you are concerned about your appearance we would recommend you ask for white or tooth coloured fillings.
White fillings are slightly more expensive than amalgam, but here at Bar Hill Dental Clinic we only use the very best materials so we feel the small additional cost is well worth it.
It doesn’t take any longer to have white or tooth coloured fillings, the procedure is exactly the same. If you need fillings ask us about having white fillings rather than the amalgam variety.
